I just saw this Comment Page Today; I Agree with Brenda who wrote earlier this very day, and so many, many others eho commented over the past 12 years, that IDEAL COOKIES were the Absolute Best snack of childhood and beyond, to whenever they stopped being made. Yesterday a friend gave me a homemade treat that reminded me a lot of Ideal Bars. I looked forward to autumn when they would reappear at Thriftway supermarket. The closest thing I found to these are the little Debbie peanut Butter bars that are very simular in shape. How sad. I wrote to Nabisco about ten years ago and was told they weren't big sellers. Would love to be able to buy again. When Nabisco first started, the biscuit cookies and crackers were stored in large bins, or cracker barrels and sold at country grocery stores by the scoopful. We hid them in the frige and I can still taste the creamy, fresh peanut butter. They sent some coupons to me in the mail and stated they would report my request. The recipe I normally use as the closest approach to the original Brown Edge Wafer that Nabisco used to make is this one from Cookie Madness, based on a recipe from the potato flour packaging. Even now, so many years later,I have never found another cookie that I have enjoyed more. These were a chocolate covered cookie shaped like a small candybar. As the others have said I can't believe that we all have been craving Ideal Peanut Butter Logs. I remember, my step-dad bringing fresh cookies out to us when we would pick him up. Well do you know I went right back up to that shelf and proceded to eat the rest of them. I would love to be able to see him try one for the first time! When I was in my 20s and did not have to worry about weight or health, I would consume and ENTIRE box all by myself during an evening with glasses of milk. my Dad's Uncle ran a country store just across the road and we could run over there and grab a package when needed. Everytime we get together we talk about how we bit off both ends and used them as straws to drink milk. The cookie aisles at the grocery store today are VERY dull and limited in what is offered for sale. We kept ours in the fridge in the summer so the chocolate wouldn't melt off!!!
